Cooperation between the UN and NATO

EN [ENA] The signing of the agreement - the first and only of its kind at the moment between the UN and the 28 NATO Centers of Excellence - was signed by the General Luìs Carrilho, UN Police Adviser, and the Colonel of the Carabinieri Giuseppe De Magistris, Director of the NSPCoE based in Vicenza (Italy).

The agreement, signed by the two prestigious organizations, provides for "close cooperation in doctrinal development, training and operational planning of peace operations, to facilitate the exchange of experiences, best practices and lessons learned, as well as promote mutual support". The two Officers also agreed to "conduct joint missions to carry out analysis and collection of information on international police missions carried out in the so-called Fragile Countries, jointly devise and designate training programs, exercises and courses, in order to improve the professional skills of the respective personnel and at the same time improve interoperability between NATO and UN Stability Police departments ".

The signing of the agreement - the first and only of its kind at the moment between the UN and the 28 NATO Centers of Excellence - was signed by the Portuguese Police Division General Luìs Carrilho, UN Police Adviser, and the Colonel of the Carabinieri Giuseppe De Magistris, Director of the NATO Stability Policing Center of Excellence (NSPCoE) based in Vicenza. It should be remembered that the NSPCoE is a multinational military structure, led by the Carabinieri, which sees the participation of eight additional countries: the Czech Republic, France, Greece, Poland, Romania, Spain, the Netherlands and Turkey.

The Stability Police is one of the key functions of the operations of the Atlantic Alliance, aimed at strengthening or replacing the host country's police forces that are unable to carry out tasks of maintaining public order and security, to ensure the respect for the law and human rights, as well as the protection of civilians and the most vulnerable and the correct operation of local institutions.
